I appreciate the concept to bring awareness to sea level rise. Quality of work is fair compared to artwork in Florida I see as a curator. CV indicates the artist won the same grant last year, and has a solid track record of regional recognition. However, there is very little national recognition or major national publications or exhibitions. Exhibition plans for proposed work is not confirmed. No specific partnerships formed as of yet. Reach is under 300 people. Past projects indicate regular exhibitions and student outreach. |

- The work samples provided help to convey the artist’s vision. Having some of the figures presented as being from a particular part of FL with accompanying narratives that gives insight into the intense experience of sea level rise in specific places lends itself to communicating the broad effects of sea level rise, from individual/ personal perspectives. The application could be strengthened in the following ways: - Project description could be strengthened by listing specifically how many and where the exhibition / artist talks supported by this grant would take place. - Project objectives could be clearer by listing three objectives for each of the goals listed above. - Project activities could be strengthened with more specificity included- for example, naming the entities (such as schools and environmental groups) you intend to reach out to. - In response to Impact (access for all) question 3, your response could be strengthened by being more specific about how you will acheive the impact you list such as 1) Building the economy and creative industries and 2) advancing leadership in arts and culture in the state and nation?

Artwork does not meet quality standards. Artist could benefit from critique sessions on how to improve works. As a sculptor, I personally don't see the human forms sculptures as successful. The animal/ dog forms are a bit more interesting, and would suggest to stay away from mannequins, or alter their physical silhouette more.
Support and reference letters are from last year (2022) or undated and the wording is a bit too informal. |
