I currently serve on the Florida Folklife Council and will serve as upcoming chair.  Although my appointment ends January 2021, grading this current application could be perceived as a conflict of interest.

The grant application needs copy editing. This includes the mission statement. Proposal could be more specific about 2020. This reads like a proposal that could be used in any year.

Wish the planners could work on making the attendees more diverse. It would be good to see that they are working toward attracting more blacks and Hispanics.

Number of school children is impressive. Would like to hear more about how you involve them.

Evaluation could be expanded and more specific. A few sample questions would be helpful. Are you going to survey artists as well as attendees? Will they have a different survey? How successful has this approach been in the past?

I would like the NEA 504 Self Evaluation.

The support materials are helpful.

This event seems to be drawing on a community of invested stakeholders. It will have a strong impact, and I am glad to see that the artists are being supported. The audience indicated is not diverse, I wonder about funds being used towards marketing, transportation options, and array of artists that may help this event benefit more populations.

Objectives: This section could benefit from adding more detail on measurable objectives, possibly by including an estimated number of presenting artists, presentations, etc. The Evaluation section is a great addition, and you could include indicators of success from your evaluations (quality, value, effectiveness) in the Objectives section and tease this out some more.

Impact: The project's impact goes well beyond festival participants with live broadcasting and online educational materials as well as festival documentation deposited in the Florida Memory Project archives. Provide more information about economic impact in regards to artist honoraria, especially since grant funds are specifically supporting this expense.

Accessibility: Although all of the boxes are checked for accessibility in regards to policies, procedures, and staff, I think there could be more information about how the festival plans to improve accessibility beyond wheelchair accessibility. The use of Sign Language interpreters is great, but the next step would be including accessibility symbols for Sign Language interpretation on marketing materials and on the website as well as information on how visitors can request interpreters or materials in accessible format. I didn't see any of this information on the festival program. Staff can also think about ways to improve accessibility for visitors with visual impairments.

Minor spelling errors throughout.

The work samples are excellent and really add a sense of clarity to the application.  Of particular note, this application is strongest in its attention to compensation and recognition of Florida artists of diverse backgrounds.  As an FYI, there are several run-on sentences and typos that affect the clarity of the narrative at points.  This would be the key area to strengthen in the future.
